The comedian cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for his split from Katy Perry.

Some couples are so wrong for each other, so clearly doomed, you can’t help but root for them. You want to believe that a former womanizer and drug addict can find marital bliss with the child of evangelical Christians.

You want to believe that the love of a quirky, adorable young singer can reform a shaggy, bad-boy comedian and result in decades of domestic harmony, while they show the world, fists shaking in the air, just how wrong they were. But unfortunately there’s this horrible thing called reality that eventually mucks everything up.

In other words, Russell Brand has just filed for divorce from Katy Perry.

Madonna and Angelina Jolie will duke it out at the Golden Globes.

Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images

In this corner, we have Angelina Jolie, the mother of six and longtime gal pal of Brad Pitt who sports a mean left hook, upper cut and fairly decent roundhouse. In the other corner, doing some serious bicep curls, is boy-toy-loving, mama of four Madonna and her four-week-old face.

The two have reportedly hated each other for years, ever since Angelina made some comments about Madonna adopting her son, David (and then daughter, Mercy), from Malawi, and Madge got a ton of heat for it.

The two have never met, but they are about to come face-to-face at the Golden Globes, and Star claims it’s go time.

Lovey-dovey tweets, reported family meddling, reunion rumours. Ugh.

While certain quarters of the tabloid world are presently distracted by Rihanna's "bikini body" and living-large spending habits, others have zeroed in on her increasingly cozy and — in light of history — very troubling chatter with sack of silly most undeserving ex Chris Brown.

Whether their interaction is just a particularly cutesy rekindling of a friendship or a genuine re-lighting of a (gross) flame is unclear, but recent Tweets from the ex-couple have led some to speculate that they could be flirting, mooning and LUV U'ing their way back into a renewed love affair.

Joe and Zooey need to do more than just make beautiful music together.

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

Ryan Gosling, I love you, but you need to take note: THIS is how you do it — and not what you do with Eva Mendes. Eye roll.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, who co-starred in 500 Days of Summer, have never been hotter. She’s starring in New Girl, he’s got The Dark Knight Rises coming out, and they’re both up for Golden Globes next month (her for her TV show, him for his stunning portrayal in 50/50).

The two have been friends for a while now, so why wouldn’t they sit in front of a video camera and sing a song together? The way she looks at him, the way he smiles at her (those dimples!), the way they sound… If you don’t swoon at least once, you’re dead inside.

Lohan denies reports that she will ring in 2012 in Dubai.

There are many of us hoping Lindsay Lohan will make a healthy comeback after her last few awful years, but there are others who want to capitalize on the hard-partying, drink-and-drug-loving Lindsay. She has been offered oodles of money to host various New Year’s Eve parties but sources insisted LiLo has turned them all down. Or has she?

Kim Kardashian’s Us Weekly cover is an ad for Photoshop, right?

Us Weekly

It doesn’t matter how hard Kris Jenner pushes for her other kids to get some of the spotlight, Kim Kardashian will always be the star. Whether it’s a sex tape, a fake marriage, or a PR-inspired stint at a homeless shelter, Kim is always front and centre, and a second baby or move to Dallas won’t change that.

Keeping up with the Kardashians is a tough job, what with their New Year’s Eve parties and Shoppers Drug Mart fragrance launches, but somebody’s got to do it. And as 2011 winds down, Kim is on Us Weekly’s last newsstand issue of the year, giving readers tips on being bikini-ready and how a sensible, organic diet and hour-long workouts help keep her size-2 body in check. Wait, what? Size 2??

Mr. Katy Perry (?) snapped in London without his ring. Cue the I-Told-You-So Chorus.

Credit Tommaso BoddiGetty

Those looking for more fuel for the Russell Brand/Katy Perry marital fire were treated to... well... a whole petrol tank's worth today after photos appeared of Brand walking the London streets sans wedding ring.

OK, so sans isn't a very London word. Point is, he wasn't wearing it. And Katy wasn't wearing hers when she was photographed Christmas Day on the opposite side of the planet. And that, dear readers, is a mighty fistful of grist for the breakup-rumour mill.

Pam Behan promises to divulge “intimate secrets” about the famous klan. Would you buy a copy?

Ethan Miller:Getty Images Entertainment

It was only a matter of time before an ex-staffer started shopping a tell-all about America’s First Family of Famewhores.

But the former nanny to the children of Bruce and Kris Jenner has promised to reveal all the dirty family secrets about the spawn that ate America’s brain. Well, the few remaining dirty family secrets anyway.

The actor reportedly records his own cover songs to send to his new girlfriend.

Back in the '90s when we had a crush on someone, the sappier among us would spend all night, index fingers primed, listening to Top 40 radio and hitting “record/play” on our worn out cassette players. The next day, we would proudly present the object of our obsession with something we geriatrics used to call “mix tapes.”

These mix tapes would include, in no particular order, at least two Boyz II Men tracks, something from The Bodyguard, for a bit of variety perhaps some Biggie Smalls, and the tail end of every commercial or DJ intro that came before the song.

These days, teenagers can accomplish the same feat in roughly two minutes, but they wouldn’t anyway, because overt demonstrations of affection are for losers and it’s way easier to just text a duckface photo of yourself in your underwear that you took in front of your mom’s bathroom mirror.

But leave it to Ryan Gosling’s publicist, toiling in the same cigarette smoke-filled, exposed brick factory basement as Blake Lively’s reps, to come up with a way to appeal to fan girls young and old.

Because while your man is sitting on the sofa, belching, and crushing Molson Canadian cans against his forehead, Ryan is recording covers of romantic songs and sending them to girlfriend Eva Mendes. Let’s hit rewind on those details, shall we?
